The work of Gonfreville-l’Orcher, the largest oil refinery in France and owned by TotalEnergies, was completely stopped. The reason for this was the strike of the workers who opposed the pension reform. reported Reuters.

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Born had previously passed a bill that increased the country’s retirement age from 62 to 64, using Article 49.3 of the French constitution, without a vote in Parliament.

“A company spokesperson said TotalEnergies’ 240,000 bbl/d Gonfreville refinery, the company’s largest refinery, has been shut down,” Prime said in a statement.

It was previously reported that the Louvre stopped its work due to the strike, and its workers joined the strike.

On March 22, more than 1 million French protested across France against the government’s increasing the retirement age. The French are also demanding the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron.
