According to the Central Bank, the most popular currency for savings among Russians is still the ruble. It is preferred by 34.9% of the citizens. USD – 28.3%. Yuan ranked third with 17.4%. The choice in favor of the euro was made by 8% of Russians.
“The popularity of the Chinese currency is a direct result of the strengthening of relations between Moscow and Beijing, in particular the expansion of bilateral trade in national currencies. The Central Bank also sets an example for individuals: it transferred part of the international reserves to the yuan, got rid of the extra dollars and euros, ”the material continues.
According to the regulator, at the beginning of February, the Russians held 7.3 trillion rubles in foreign currency. This is the maximum since 2018, when such information began to be published.
In the second half of November 2022, referring to the results of a survey conducted by the Moneyman service, the Prime Ministry reported that in 2022 interest in the currencies of “friendly” countries has noticeably increased among Russians. The most popular units of account include the Chinese yuan, Kazakh tenge and Arabian dirham.
