The gross potato harvest in the 2023 season may be 300,000 tons less than last year’s season. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Oksana Lut at a meeting held on March 23 at the Ministry of Agriculture with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development. According to the newspaper, the harvest of this root crop was 18.7 million tons in the 2022 season, so this year’s figure is expected to decrease by 1.6 percent.

According to the addressee of the publication, at the meeting, Lot said that the decrease in crops is expected mainly in the plots of personal participation. According to the deputy minister, industrial production is unlikely to meet the retired volumes. But in terms of domestic consumption this should be sufficient to supply the population.

In the statement given by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture to the newspaper, the potato planted area in the organized sector in 2023 was 301,900 hectares in 2022, and it will increase to 305 thousand hectares in 2023.
