Lake Montbel in France is drying up with the region’s longest drought since 1959, and local farmers are worried about the safety of their spring harvest. Wrote Reuters agency.
Crop farmer Christophe Mascarenc says Lake Montbel “is a guarantee of income” for local farmers, and without it many farms will not be able to operate.
According to Xavier Rouge, an employee who monitors the technical condition of the dam on the lake, the area receives record low rainfall at this time of year. Today, there is only 15 million cubic meters of water in the lake, while the norm for the current period is 40 million cubic meters.
Montbel Lake was formed in 1985 as a result of the overflow of the forest. It is used to provide a stable water supply to the fields in the region.
