Discount stores in Germany raised the prices of their own brands, making it much more difficult for the poor to buy them. In this respect writer The Spiegel paper cites an analysis of the consumer organization Foodwatch.
According to the study, most retail discounters in Germany have increased prices for their products. Therefore, those who want to save money and often buy goods of their own brand from one or another retail chain most felt the increase in prices last year. Overall, the prices of some discounters’ own brands rose 31% or more. At the same time, general inflation for food was about 20%, according to the Federal Statistics Office.
The publication noted that Foodwatch criticizes the self-advertisement of grocery stores, which should be near the consumer. However, in fact, many manufacturers have sharply increased prices, luring consumers with attractive advertisements.
Foodwatch added that in order to save the situation, the German authorities should increase the income of citizens, as well as offer free lunches in schools and kindergartens, and reduce VAT on fruits, vegetables and pulses to zero.
January 20 Spiegel, referring to the results of a survey conducted by ARD TV channel employees WroteAlmost half (49%) of Germans agree that they have reduced their meat consumption over the past five years, and only 2% of respondents agree that they have increased their consumption of meat products during this time.
