The U.S. Treasury Department claims that Turkish authorities will take measures to stop sanctions being circumvented. It has been reported TASSreferring to the statement of the American foreign policy department following the results of bilateral consultations.

Brian Nelson, the US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury responsible for counter-terrorism and financial intelligence, and Mustafa Tuzcu, the Deputy Minister of Commerce of Turkey, met in Washington on March 13. Nelson “praised” Turkey’s recent efforts to strengthen its anti-money laundering and terrorist financing regime, and its commitment to take action to prevent sanctions from being circumvented. The U.S. Treasury did not specify what kind of restrictions were in place.

The text also points out that Nelson and Tuzju have stated that “protecting the international financial system from abuse” is a common goal.

It was previously reported that Turkey stoped parallel imports to Russia of goods previously subject to Western sanctions. Experts attribute this to the recent visit of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Turkey, which threatened Turkish companies with secondary sanctions for violating restrictive measures against Russia.
