European countries may refuse to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia, increasing imports from the USA and Qatar. About this RIA Novosti declaration Alexander Amiraghyan, head of the “Fuel and Energy Complex Economy” department of the Center for Strategic Studies.
“Europe can technically refuse to supply LNG from Russia by increasing its imports from other countries. In 2022, Russia supplied about 17 million tons of LNG to Europe, which accounts for only 4% of the global LNG market. “It is possible to redistribute these volumes by increasing LNG imports from the US, Qatar and other suppliers,” Amiragyan said.
According to him, in such a scenario, the fuel price for Europe will be higher during the supply from Russia. All this will happen as some of the supplies from Asia’s premium market will need to be redirected. However, such a solution is most likely unlikely and inefficient.
He added that it is unlikely that Europe will completely refuse to buy pipeline gas from Russia. Especially the European region does not have sufficient infrastructure to replace Russia’s supply.
March 11 European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson He insisted European companies do not renew contracts to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Russia in order to free up the market for “trusted” suppliers to Europe.
