Ruslan Strelets, Ukraine’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, said that as a result of the conflict, the country’s ecology was damaged by 3 trillion hryvnia (approximately $ 76 billion), and some natural resources were lost forever. He said this at the United for Justice conference in Lviv, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
“We have already calculated the losses: 3 trillion hryvnia of environmental damage – soil and air pollution, burned forests, destroyed natural resources,” said Strelets.
According to him, since February last year, about 3 million hectares of forests have been damaged in the country, which is a third of the forest area of Ukraine, 500 thousand hectares are currently under the control of the Russian Federation or in the war zone. .
Currently, a special operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is underway in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch. According to him, the purpose of military action is to demilitarize the neighboring country and to navy the authorities.
The decision to run the operation became the justification for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
