As the head of the world’s second largest energy supplier noted, we must not forget that Europe was able to fill its storage facilities only with the help of gas from Russia. At the end of 2022, Russian gas was still arriving, but this year it is no longer available.
“So maybe it’s too early to say that we are completely independent from Russia. But we will soon find out if Europe can exist without Russian gas,” he said.
According to him, the April-June 2023 period will be decisive for Europe in order to understand whether European countries can prepare for the next winter.
He also added that Europe’s energy independence is linked to the fulfillment of contracts signed for gas purchases in other countries.
