The Russian embassy in Iran reported that the captain of the ship carrying Russian oil, which, according to police, was detained in Albania has been arrested. This was stated in the diplomatic mission sent to the agency. DEA News.
Previously on the website of the Albanian National Police reported about the arrest of a Liberian-flagged tanker carrying Russian oil in violation of EU and US sanctions, according to local authorities.
According to the Russian embassy in Iran, the detained ship was loaded with oil from a Turkish tanker in Greek territorial waters and sailed for the Albanian port of Durres. According to the assumption of local authorities, the oil was purchased from one of the Russian ports on the Black Sea and was intended for the Albanian company AV Internacional Group.
It is stated that Durres police arrested the ship at the order of the prosecutor’s office and confiscated the passports of the mostly Russian crew, since the crew did not have a certificate of the country of origin of the oil.
According to the diplomatic mission, the authorities launched an investigation and the captain of the ship, Alexei Smaznov, accused of smuggling was arrested.
