Cheap flower deliveries from Kenya and Ecuador are taking a toll on Russian producers, so domestic growers have asked them to conduct an anti-dumping investigation. About this RIA Novosti declaration Alexei Antipov, President of the National Florists’ Association.

“Currently, the National Florists Association is working to initiate an anti-dumping investigation within the framework of the EAEU in connection with cheap imports from third countries, causing economic damage to the industry. If the check is successful, the EAEU will increase the customs duty and bring anti-dumping protection,” he said.

According to him, flower producers in Russia hold only 17% of the market. The main flower sources now come from Kenya and Ecuador. Therefore, domestic firms want to replace part of the supply with Russian products. But the low customs duty so far prevents the situation from changing.

He added that cheap flower supplies from Ecuador and Kenya are also a problem for other participants in the EAEU market. Therefore, the decision to increase the customs duty belongs to the Eurasian Economic Commission. In addition, there is already an investigation experience where the tax on goods increased by more than 120%.

At the beginning of March last year, RBC Wroteflorists manage to buy flowers by March 8, while the cost of bouquets will increase. Experts think that the depreciation of the ruble will affect the prices and the prices of the bouquets may rise up to 30%. And a representative of the online platform Flowwow said he received a message from florists about the price increase. Moreover, it can grow from 40% to 200% compared to the standard seasonal increase before the holiday.
