Ukrainian customers have started to import fuel oil from Europe via Moldova and pump it to gas storage facilities in Ukraine. This was reported by the “Ukrainian GTS Operator”.
At the beginning of 2023, the Moldovan government approved decisions on the necessary changes in legislation, allowing all companies to use the virtual reverse service at points of participation in Ukraine. This step unblocked gas imports from the south to Ukraine via the Trans-Balkan route, as the Ukrainian operator stated.
“Customers of Ukrainian gas transport services, following their foreign counterparts, import gas from European countries via Moldova and then inject the gas into Ukraine’s underground gas storage facilities,” says the statement posted on the operator’s social networks.
“Ukrainian GTS Operator” noted that from this day the country has the opportunity to make a virtual return with all GTS operators of neighboring European countries, “the main condition is the availability of a resource in the system.” They added that virtual reverse gear saves fuel and reduces CO2 emissions during combustion.
Former Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolesnik declarationHe said his country is ready to provide free capacity for the transport and storage of natural gas from the Caspian basin to the European Union.
