The average cost of airfare for flights within Russia increased by 8-14% last year compared to 2021. There has been no price increase at these rates in the sector for the last 14 years, informs Izvestia newspaper, citing the source.
“The cost of flights within Russia in economy class increased in 2022 at the highest rate in 14 years. According to sources at the three major aggregators, the growth was 8-14%. According to Rosstat, prices have increased by 11%: the average cost of airfare per 1,000 kilometers in December 2021 was 5,482.2 rubles, and in December 2022 it was 6,096.9 rubles.
Airfare prices for flights across Russia last increased at a higher rate in 2008. Subsequently, the cost of flights around the country increased by an average of 34% compared to 2007 figures. At the same time, in the middle of 2022, prices rose even faster, but towards the end of last year, the dynamics slowed down, the article states.
“In August 2022, prices reached an almost absolute value – with a maximum of 6892.51 to 6621 rubles (recorded in August 2010),” the note concludes.
