Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said that the world should switch to renewable energy by 2050. The Minister expressed this view at the opening of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) General Assembly in Abu Dhabi, Wrote TASS.

The speed of transition to renewable energy sources should be accelerated and their share should be increased to 2/3 of the world’s energy by 2030 and to 100 percent by 2050, the Minister said.

Al Jabir cited the adverse effects of climate change, the coronavirus pandemic and disruption of food and energy supply chains due to geopolitical crises as reasons for the need to move.

At the same time, UN Secretary General António Guterres sent a video message to the meeting participants and said that renewable energy sources are the guarantee of energy security. According to him, a comprehensive international cooperation agreement on this issue should be concluded within the next 10 years.
