Montenegrin authorities have released the names of more than a thousand foreigners who received “honorary citizenship” of the republic in the period from 2008 to 2022. About reported national television RTCG.

According to the channel, the lists include citizens from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and some other countries. At the same time, the list includes the names of Russians mostly in the 2021-2022 period, making up almost half of the list.

The publication noted that most of the economic citizenship holders were issued a “golden passport” at the request of former Montenegrin Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic.

The “Economic citizenship” program was launched in Montenegro in 2019. Later, the authorities hoped to sell about 2,000 passports and get 4.8 billion euros from it, but few people wanted to acquire the citizenship of the country, and EU officials repeatedly demanded that this program be closed.
