According to the publication, the authorities of Kazakhstan have repeatedly talked about the search for alternative ways to supply oil, bypassing the territory of Russia. However, the oilmen could not find alternative ways. Finding them can take years and billions of dollars in investment.
The authors of the publication highlight that Kazakhstan has four possible ways to allow oil supply to bypass the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) – to increase supply by rail from the territory of the Russian Federation, transport oil to Azerbaijan and deliver further via Baku. The Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Supsa pipelines increase the supply to China and Iran.
Formerly the Cabinet of Ministers of the Russian Federation approved 10-year extension of the agreement with Kazakhstan on the transit of oil to China.
