newspaper reporter JB Press Minoru Yamada described the developing situation in trade between Japan and Russia as abnormal since the transaction volume between the countries was higher than before the sanctions.
The author noted that the total volume of exports and imports in 2022 is the same as in 2021, and the import figures have increased on the backdrop of the sanctions restrictions imposed by Tokyo on Moscow. According to him, against the background of what is happening in Ukraine, this situation is unacceptable and cannot be ignored.
“Japan’s total trade with Russia in the January-November period was 542.3 billion yen in exports and 1.8252 trillion yen in imports, with a deficit of 1.2829 trillion yen. The amount of imports exceeded the total of 1.5516 trillion yen by more than 270 billion yen in 2021,” Yamada said.
He added that in this way the Russian side received a large amount of money from Japan. In addition, the journalist drew attention to the “unprecedented scale” of used car imports to Russia and reminded that imports of seafood are not subject to sanctions.
