Draft law on the issuance and use of the Digital Ruble submitted to the State Duma, reports TASS.
It is stated that the aim of the bill is to expand the use of digital technologies by citizens, businesses and the government.
The bill was presented by a group of deputies headed by Anatoly Aksakov, chairman of the State Duma financial market committee.
Previously, the State Duma until the end of the year introduced Draft digital ruble law – a new form of money combining cash and non-cash features.
During 2022, the Central Bank made test payments in digital rubles. Including transfers between citizens, in particular using a mobile application, paying for purchases, opening digital wallets.
Due to anti-Russian sanctions, the Central Bank has accelerated the start of digital ruble tests starting April 23, 2022.
As Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina previously stated, the Central Bank of Russia plans to start testing the digital ruble with real customers from April 2023. According to him, the regulator is now testing the digital ruble with fifteen banks.
