Russia extends ban on transporting trucks on its territory for unfriendly countries

The Government of the Russian Federation has decided to extend the ban on international road freight transport in Russia until 30 June 2023 for countries that have imposed transport restrictions against the Russian Federation. The relevant decree, which entered into force on January 10, 2023, was published at: Official internet portal of legal information.

According to the document, the ban does not apply to international road transport of postal items, diplomatic and consular bags, as well as humanitarian aid. Also, the ban does not apply to goods imported from part of the state border of Russia and Belarus, to goods in trailers or semi-trailers registered in foreign countries, towed by self-propelled vehicles registered in the Russian Federation or Belarus.

Reportedly, the Russian Cabinet Established Ban on entry of trucks from the European Union from September until the end of 2022. It was introduced after the decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin on the possibility of imposing restrictions on international road transport on the territory of Russia with vehicles belonging to companies from non-friendly countries.

This was a response to the EU’s decision on April 8 not to allow trucks registered in Russia to enter Russian territory.
