In the first nine months of this year, tea exports from India increased by 16 percent compared to the same period of 2021. However, rates have not yet reached pre-pandemic levels, informs The Telegraph newspaper cites data from the Tea Council of India.

“India exported 165.58 million kg of tea between January and September. In the same period last year, 142.55 million kg of tea exports were recorded.

For comparison, India exported 209.72 million kg and 195.5 million kg in total in 2020 and 2021, respectively. And before the coronavirus pandemic – in 2018 and 2019 – these figures were 256.06 million kg and 252.15 million kg. This year, however, India may sell more tea to foreign countries, though this is hampered by international sanctions against Russia and Iran.

We could have done more if it weren’t for the payment problem with Iran and Russia. Anshuman Kanoria, head of the Indian Tea Exporters Association, said the government should help us solve this problem.

April 19 issue of the Economic Times reportedThat India resumed exports of tea, rice, fruit, coffee and seafood to Russia. The supply of these products almost stopped after the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
