With the Interconnector pipeline between the United Kingdom, Belgium and England, gas exports to European countries have increased to the highest level since 2016, Wrote Bloomberg agency.
With the onset of the winter cold, London usually imports gas from Europe via this pipeline. However, with the withdrawal of Russian gas in 2022, record exports are experienced instead of fuel purchases, as European Union (EU) countries need alternative supply sources.
“Unlike in previous years, we expect the UK to remain a net gas exporter to the continent this winter benefiting from the higher availability of regasification capacity and Europe’s record LNG demand,” said Wood Mackenzie analyst Mauro Chavez.
At the same time, the UK itself may experience problems with gas supply in the winter. Gas depots in the country can provide the population with fuel at normal consumption for only nine days. Germany, for example, is able to supply the population with gas for 89 days.
Earlier on December 5, consulting firm ICIS reportedHe said EU countries reduced their gas demand in November by a quarter of the five-year average.
