The UK’s National Crime Agency has arrested a Russian businessman suspected of money laundering. Independent.
It was noted that numerous electronic devices and “significant amounts of cash” were seized during the search. The detained businessman and his two acquaintances were questioned and released on bail.
Earlier, at the hearing in the case of businessman Andrei Yakunin, who was accused of taking forbidden photos in Svalbard, the prosecutor said: requested 120 days in prison for him.
Yakunin is accused of violating the Russian ban on flying drones over Norwegian airspace. Yakunin holds British-Russian citizenship. According to media reports, Yakunin said he was unaware of this ban and noted that he saw himself in connection with England rather than Russia.
The prosecution believes that Yakunin should not be exempted from punishment because he was unaware of the ban, and that the Norwegian court should decide which nationality should be considered. The defense insists that their client is being punished for being Russian, and the purpose of the sanctions law is misinterpreted.
