Rosfinmonitoring told the newspaper “News”in which cases the Russians can be held responsible for buying Meta shares.

The department pointed out that the recognition of Meta Platforms as an extremist organization and the ban on its activities in Russia meant that local financial institutions had to freeze the company’s money and other assets. This does not apply to user access to Meta products.

If a citizen transfers money to Meta or another organization that is on the list of extremists, criminal liability may be threatened under article 282.3 “Financing of extremist activities” of the Criminal Code.

The investor may be held liable if the commodity shares are purchased during their additional issuance, since in this case the money goes directly to the company. As the lawyers explained in an interview with the publication, it is unlikely that criminal sanctions will be imposed on owners of “old” securities.

Previously at the Central Bank accepted Criminal risks for commodity shareholders.
