The Toyota company in the village of Shushary (St. Petersburg) has switched from idle to closure, this information has already been confirmed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, RBC writes. The plant has been shut down since the beginning of March and all the while management has been trying to solve the component supply problem. However, it was not possible to set up new supply chains and now the factory is shut down.
Further options are possible (the plant will probably be sold), but the company will certainly not go back to the production of Toyota cars, Kommersant reports on its own initiative. The staff of the factory and the employees of the Moscow office receive a higher compensation – from 12 salaries.
At the St. Petersburg site, Toyota produced the most popular models for us – Camry and RAV4, the capacity of the plant was designed to produce 100,000 cars per year
The laying of the foundation stone of the future Russian Toyota plant took place in 2005 and the launch of car production in 2007, both events were attended by President Vladimir Putin. Subsequently, Nissan and Hyundai plants also appeared in St. Petersburg. From March to the present, both companies have stood still.
Sources note that nothing should change for owners of Toyota and Lexus cars: the decision to close the factory will not affect the work of the dealer network and after-sales service. Since February, no new cars have been delivered to the Russian Toyota showrooms.
- Before closing, the under-assembled cars at the brand’s St. Petersburg factory were disassembled for spare parts to create a reserve to meet warranty obligations.
