Marketing trick or real advantage?
Since appearing in the sale of “enhanced” gasolines (Ultimate, V-Power, G-Drive, Pulsar, Ecto), marketers have tried every possible way to confuse consumers by providing them with inaccurate information.
Foreign companies are especially successful in this. Instead of clearly showing the benefits of the new petrols, they organized press conferences in which the improved 98 petrol was invariably compared with the regular (without super additives) 95 petrol.
And they actively urged all consumers to forget about the 95th gasoline and switch to the 98th and to the improved one (read, the most expensive, except for the rare 100th).
A fragment of a typical presentation with promises of extra miles. Gasoline manufacturers lie.
Professional petrochemists have repeatedly explained that the main effect of all improved gasolines is based on their high detergency. Such a fuel, with constant use, removes accumulated deposits and prevents the formation of new ones. On older engines, they can clean the fuel system, returning the machine’s characteristics to passport values.
Written not to believe?
Now many foreign fuel companies have left the market. But the mythical claims remained. It is enough to consult the official websites of our petrol manufacturers to be convinced of this.
Statement 1. Pulsar fuel is produced according to uniform quality requirements for branded fuel in all locations.
Expert opinion: are misleading. What are the quality requirements for such fuels? Their existence is not determined in the technical regulations and current GOSTs. The instructions for the cars also do not state that they should be used. It turns out that the meaning of what has been said is simple: this fuel is subject to the same requirements as ‘normal’ fuel.
Statement 2: Pulsar-100 improves engine performance, fuel consumption and reduces emissions in modern vehicles thanks to the higher octane number.
Expert opinion: does not correspond to reality. What is the “performance” of an engine? A hint of his power? But power does not depend on the octane number. Pour at least the 200th of gas into the Grant – it won’t go any faster.
Octane is not synonymous with calories. Another thing is that in hot weather, using gasoline with an increased octane rating will eliminate possible explosions and thus help to disperse nameplate power. But never exceed it. Emissions can reduce the quality of gasoline, not the octane rating.
Theorem 3. Pulsar releases a supply of energy from the internal force of the motor.
Expert opinion: technically illiterate. What is the energy of the motor’s internal force? Apparently, the fuel manufacturer is counting on the car owner to fall for pseudo-technical formulations.
Statement 4. The main advantages of the updated Ecto PLUS fuel: + 11% fuel consumption, + 13.8% increase in power.
Expert opinion: do not lose your vigilance. Read the text typed in fine print on the company’s website. There are words “instant effect”. That is, we are talking about a single peak on the oscillogram. In addition, it is said that a capacity increase is not possible “by 13.8%”, but “up to 13.8%”. And it can be 0.001%. And the percentages indicated are given in comparison with AI-95-K5 gasoline produced by OOO LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez, which is not commercially available.
Statement 5. By using “enhanced” fuel, you can travel several kilometers more on each tank than with “regular” fuel.
Expert opinion: the statement is incorrect. In reality, driving at one gas station, say 50 km more, is possible only when a properly polluted engine can be washed from deposits due to a prolonged transition to “improved” gasoline. But such fuel does not have an increased calorie content. If you test two brand new engines – regular petrol and upgraded – the results will be the same. And there will be no increase compared to passport data.
Which petrol do you choose? It is possible and expensively improved. Only the consumer needs to know exactly what he is paying too much for.
To fill or not?
Fill in! At least occasionally. Personally, I always use gasoline with detergent additives. In any case, there has not yet been a chance to hear about a negative effect on the engine of such fuel.
