In cold weather, drivers often make mistakes that negatively affect the vehicle. The most common of them was named by Alexandra Gabaraeva, mechanical repair manager of Avilon AG, in an interview with socialbites.ca.
“Many drivers leave their car idling for a long time to warm up. This is inefficient and wears out the engine. Instead, it is better to start the engine and run it for 1-2 minutes, then start moving carefully,” the expert advised.
Among Gabaraeva’s other mistakes was ignoring the control of technical fluids and oils, which led to serious problems with the car. Additionally, ice on the car impairs visibility and causes accidents, and snow on the roof often falls onto vehicles behind. In this context, the expert emphasized that the vehicle should be cleaned regularly.
Another of the weakest points of a car in winter is the battery, which discharges faster in cold weather. Therefore, with the onset of cold weather, its condition should be checked and, if necessary, charged, Gabaraeva said.
“Before severe frosts, silicone oil should be applied to the doors and windows to prevent them from freezing. The expert noted that the locks should also be lubricated for the winter with frost-resistant grease or a special spray.
Previous weather forecasters I promised drivers are experiencing a “tense winter”.
