After three years of development, Shoei introduced the Optixon helmet at the Osaka & Tokyo MC Show 2022. This is a joint development with NS West and it is likely that we already have a production version of the helmet.
A “smart” helmet can display different tips on the glass in front of the visors. For example, a map with objects on it, a phone book, and so on. This should increase safety, as all this information will always be in front of the eyes, wherever the rider looks, and he will not have to be distracted by the smartphone screen mounted on the handlebar.
As you can see from the photos, the Shoei Optixon has a HUD screen opposite the right eye – an adjustable transparent glass onto which the image is projected. The helmet also has a Bluetooth module, a projection device, a speaker and a microphone.
The projector is on the top of the chin guard and it feels like all the images in front of the bike are floating in the air – about half a meter away. The image is clear, but the vision does not deteriorate at all.
All information for the projection comes from the smartphone, which is connected to the helmet’s electronics via Bluetooth. Navigator voice prompts are also broadcast through it.
How much such a helmet weighs is unknown, but those who measured it at the exhibition say its weight is about the same as other helmets from the company. For example, as in the Neotech II line – 1.3-1.5 kg.
The cost of the Shoei Optixon helmet and the date of its release on the market have not yet been announced. But there is information that it costs from 120,000 to 150,000 yen, or from 83 thousand to 103 thousand rubles, which is comparable to the cost of Neotech II helmets.
In front of the visor, he has a screen on which various tips are displayed.
