Audi produces first rear-wheel drive liftback in 80 years 11:56

German automaker Audi has unveiled the new generation A6 liftback and station wagon. The vehicles are equipped with electric powertrains and rear-wheel drive. reports press service of the automaker.

The new Audi A6 is based on a PPE platform with an 800-volt onboard electrical system. The same platform also underlies the Porsche Macan crossover. In the basic version, the cars are equipped with rear-wheel drive. For the first time in decades, Audi has introduced a rear-wheel drive car. An earlier example of such a design is the Audi 920 sedan, released in 1938.

The new Audi A6 is equipped with electric motors producing 367 horsepower as standard. All-wheel drive quattro versions are equipped with power units producing 428 hp. The most powerful version of the Audi S6 e-tron produces 503 hp. For a short time, it can be increased to 511 hp. The cars received an aerodynamic body with a low drag coefficient of 0.21, for which special wheels were developed.
