Russians warned about uselessness of GPS beacons to protect cars from theft 17:12

Installing GPS beacons on a car is not an effective way to prevent car theft nor is it an effective way to find a car that has already been stolen. Andrey Kondrashov, head of the Anti-Theft Copyright Protection Laboratory, told about this.

“The sign gives a chance to find a car after it has been stolen, but as practice shows, this is a difficult task. There were cases when the owner found hidden marked parts of a car, but the car itself was no longer there,” Kondrashov said.

In his opinion, a stolen car may be on the move, and the coordinates of its location, which the signalman sends once a day, may be unimportant for its owner, who is in another city. Additionally, the vehicle may be in a closed area and can only be entered after a long time with the help of the police.

“The lighthouse is a way to reassure the vehicle owner. As practice shows, once it is stolen, the owner cannot go and get it himself,” Kondrashov concluded.

It was previously clear why the Russians mistake traffic police exams.
