The old “KAMAZ” wants to revive the principle of used smartphones

According to information from socialbites.ca, the technology for the restoration of metal-intensive parts for trucks was proposed by scientists from the NUST MISiS named after Vavilov, SSAU and the Kazan National Research Technological University. It has been proposed to replace metal components depleting their resources by hot plastic deformation.

The process of restoring the part, cleaning the worn unit, butt welding to the end of the compensation layer, pre-deformation heating of the workpiece to the plastic deformation temperature, stamping, forging annealing, cutting to nominal dimensions, heat treatment, making the physical and mechanical properties of the restored part as close as possible to the manufacturer’s requirements. makes it possible to double the service life and ensure safe operation.

“Economic sanctions on Russia also affected the domestic automotive industry: the supply of components for the manufacture and repair of cars was banned. According to the joint announcement of educational institutions (available from socialbites.ca), among those affected by the sanctions is the cargo giant KamAZ.

The authors of the study assure that the cost of restoring a node will be about 80% of the price of a new part. However, KamAZ itself is wary of attempts to restore expired truck parts.

“We are not engaged in the restoration of parts, we organized their production. And above all, automotive components must ensure safety.

To approve or disapprove such technologies, we first need to conduct extensive tests, ”Oleg Afanasyev, official representative of KamAZ, told socialbites.ca.

According to him, it is necessary to learn how such parts are serviceable and how they will affect road safety. KamAZ has its own research base, through which all parts installed on trucks pass, including those that are sold as spare parts, both in-house and purchased from suppliers, approved by the authorized factory representative KamAZ.

“At the same time, we do not deny that perhaps such technologies are very promising. If such technologies or remanufactured parts are offered, our research base can be used to test them.”

Afanasyev finished.

Experts note that, as with used smartphones, technologies for factory restoration of used parts are used by well-known global automakers. At the same time, such a process is quite laborious, since the original parts must be sorted out and those that cannot be repaired.

“Western automakers such as Volvo and Scania have been practicing this practice for decades. Details are being restored on the way to an industrial factory, including engines,” said Alexander Solntsev, editor-in-chief of Commercial Transport and Technologies magazine in a conversation with socialbites.ca.

And since such spare parts are industrially restored under the control of the automaker, the company gives them a guarantee,

The expert points out that the cost of such spare parts is about 30-40% lower than the new ones.

For Scandinavian truck manufacturers, in-depth remanufacturing of end-of-life components is a lucrative business, including axles, gearboxes and other truck components. At the same time, the technology presented by Russian scientists is not technical knowledge – such methods have been studied for a long time and are well known, says Sergei Burgazliev, an independent consultant in the automotive industry.

“The question is whether a spare part remanufactured in this way will be cheaper than a domestic or Chinese counterpart.

If the restoration turns out to be cheaper, such a service will find its consumer, ”Burgazliev told socialbites.ca. “First of all, if there are not enough spare parts for foreign troops and if they are difficult to obtain, this technology could theoretically be in demand.”

At the same time, there are no problems with parts for KamAZ trucks of the old series, since the vast majority of components for them are produced in Russia, adds the expert. He points out that the supply of new spare parts for German axles or gearboxes, which KamAZ switched to in cooperation with the Daimler concern, is a big problem in the current conditions.

As socialbites.ca found out, scientists from several Russian universities proposed a technology for the restoration of KamAZ trucks in the face of a shortage of new auto components. At KamAZ, they are not yet engaged in the restoration of parts, but note that such components must pass a series of tests in order to be approved for use. Foreign manufacturers are also engaged in the restoration of truck parts, but experts warn that this process is technically complex.
