Major change in OSAGO – from April 1

The new bonus-malus insurance rate coefficient (BMF), which insurers will apply when calculating the cost of an OSAGO policy, will come into effect on April 1, 2022. And it will operate under contracts concluded through March 31, 2023.

The MSC is assessed annually for all drivers. Thanks to the “bonus-malus” coefficient, accident-free drivers can receive an additional discount on the OSAGO policy and increase insurance costs for those motorists who often become the culprit of an accident.

The minimum coefficient used to calculate the amount of the insurance premium falls from 0.5 to 0.46, while the maximum discount for accident-free driving is increased by 4 percentage points to 54% vs. 50% The maximum CBM will be increased for emergency drivers up to 3.92 vs 2.45 This is shown more clearly in the infographic.

This makes the pricing of OSAGO policies even fairer, note in the information project “OSAGO: public expertise”.

Accident-free driving should be economically beneficial to road users themselves, which is encouraged by the recalculation of the MSC. For example, in the first half of 2021, the number of accident-free car owners increased by 3.3 million compared to the same period in 2020.

“The absolute majority – over 94% of the drivers – received a discount on OSAGO of 5% or more. All of them were convinced from personal experience that if you drive carefully and do not become the culprit of an accident, you can get a nice discount on the next “car citizen” policy ”, noted Evgeny Ufimtsev, executive director of the Russian Union of car insurers (RSA).
