Some were forced to stop working last year due to a scandal with a Daihatsu subsidiary that falsified crash test results and committed a number of other violations affecting the vehicle’s driving safety. In total, over 170 violations were detected, covering dozens of models.
As a result of the scandal, production of all Daihatsu cars sold under the Toyota brand, including the Probox, Town Ace, Roomy and Pixis models, was stopped. All six production lines in Japan were closed.
