For the first time in history, China’s electric car BYD Seal was among the finalists of the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) competition. In this respect says on the awards website.
In the final, the electric car will compete for the best title with the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30 crossovers. It is noteworthy that the second model is assembled in China. This means that in fact two cars from the Middle Kingdom will participate in the final stage of the competition at the same time. Whatever the jury decides, the battery model will come first.
At the same time, the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30 may also take the title of Electric Car of the Year. The BMW i5 5 Series competes with them for the prize.
However, the best “Premium Car of the Year” will be chosen between two models: Mercedes-Benz (E-Class and EQE SUV) and BMW 5-Series. At the same time, the Bavarian company has a better chance of winning the “Sports Car of the Year” category: the M2 coupe, the XM crossover and the Ioniq 5 N electric car have reached the final stage.
In the “Design of the Year” category, Ford Bronco, Ferrari Purosangue and Toyota Prius compete for the title of the most beautiful car.
The winners of the competition will be announced at the New York Auto Show on March 27.
