According to Izvestia newspaper, due to high prices, Russian car dealers cannot sell stocks of some models of European and South Korean manufacturers that have left the Russian Federation.
The remaining cars, such as Kia Cerato and Seltos, Volkswagen Taos and Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq and Karoq, are more expensive than similar competing models in China, said Ilya Petrov, retail sales director of the Avilon dealership.
The price of these cars has increased significantly recently. Thus, the Kia Cerato in the Luxe configuration costs 2.3 million rubles, but previously it cost only 1.6 million rubles. Kia Seltos will now cost buyers 2.3 million rubles instead of 1.8 million rubles at the beginning of 2022.
Independent automotive expert Sergei Burgazliev noted that the remaining stocks of relatively affordable models such as Hyundai Solaris or Volkswagen Polo were exhausted in a very short time, while more expensive models remained unclaimed. It makes no sense for buyers to buy a car for 3-4 million rubles, for which there is now almost no warranty or support in the supply of spare parts.
Burgazliev emphasized that for 2 million rubles you can buy a new Chinese car, which is in no way inferior to European and South Korean ones. At the same time, Chinese models are under warranty and spare parts are also available.
