GAZ-69 had an underground modification – true or myth?

A special road train RAF-983-725 for mines and tunnels on the basis of the GAZ-69 was equipped with a catalytic converter already in 1964 – otherwise you will completely suffocate underground…

At a speed of up to 30 km / h, he brought 32 people to the slaughter (according to other sources – up to 44).

To reduce the turning circle, all axles were controlled by a drawbar and a lifting device. Each trailer was equipped with an emergency parking brake, the activation of which was accompanied by an indication on the instrument panel of the tractor.

It is curious that the steel walls of the trailers had a solid thickness – 3 mm.

The RAF-983-725 road train existed in 20 copies, which worked in one of the Soligorsk potash plants. In it, more than 30 people could be slaughtered at a speed of up to 30 km/h. Underground modifications to PAZ buses were also used.

Mikhail Kolodochkin has been collecting unusual facts from the history of technology for many years. For example, did you know what the “legs” on the headlights of the Zhiguli of the fifth and seventh model were for?
