The Ministry of Economic Development plans to discuss with Thailand the possibility of opening factories for the production of spare parts and components for cars in Russia.
“We are also willing to discuss the possibilities of locating the production of auto parts in Russia to replace the ‘failed’ western supplies. Thailand’s auto industry is one of the strongest in the world. Especially from the point of view of the production of auto parts,” the head of the ministry, Maxim Reshetnikov, said after negotiations with Thailand’s Commerce Minister Churin Laxana.
Preparatory discussions took place during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum.
Russia plans to cooperate with Thailand not only in the automotive sector, but also in the agricultural sector, energy and industry, as well as in the export of technology and innovation.
“We have serious prospects for developing cooperation. We estimate the potential to increase trade with Russia at $10 billion,” Laksanavisit said.
Mutually beneficial cooperation will be able to eliminate the shortage of spare parts and components in the Russian market and make goods cheaper because they do not need to be imported into the Russian Federation via third countries.
