Is it worth replacing a ticket with a hotel for a vacation in a trailer this year?

According to the situation at the beginning of May this year, the average cost of a used tourist trailer with a residential module in Russia is 300 thousand rubles, Avito classification specialists calculated specifically for socialbites.ca. A tent trailer without various amenities costs 100,000 rubles, and spacious, equipped “summer trailers” are sold on average from 800,000 rubles.

Other options for auto travel will cost much more. For example, so-called kastenvagens – used cars converted into residential buildings based on commercial minibuses (Citroen, Peugeot, Fiat, etc.) – cost 1.6 million rubles. The same price applies to caravans with recesses, specially built on the basis of the serial chassis of cars with a cabin. Buyers of large semi-integrated caravans will have to prepare several million rubles.

In addition, renting the most compact camper hut in Russia at the moment costs 1.5 thousand rubles per day,

Says Alexander Epifantsev, representative of Yachts on Wheels. Such transport can be equipped with two beds, a kitchen and a toilet.

“You get housing for 1,500 rubles a day, you can cook in it. The main expenditure item is fuel and food,” explains the source, who recently returned from a caravan trip in Dagestan.

Kemperus COO Maria Sokolova explains that if you buy a new caravan with all the necessary amenities for travel, then it will already include a heater, a kitchen with a stove, dishes, a dry closet and a spare wheel. The list of basic options also includes mattresses and bedding, and an inflatable boat can be rented, for example, for 100 rubles per day.

Among the huge variety of caravans, Russians most often choose “dacha trailers”. According to Sokolova, this is not only the most convenient option, but also the easiest – even an ordinary station wagon like Lada Largus can manage to pull such a trailer.

“At the same time, Russians became more actively interested in outdoor recreation:

trailer rental demand increased by 40%.

If you can put a 100-liter water tank and a refrigerator with a compressor in your car, you can travel autonomously in a caravan for a week and travel without thinking,” says Sokolova of Kemperus.

Prices are rising

Yachts on Wheels’ Alexander Epifantsev says trailer rental services have doubled on average on the market in the last two or three years.

“The number of compact trailers produced in Russia is also increasing rapidly. True, they are not very comfortable in them: the room is small, yes, and you have to cook on the street, but this does not bother people, ”says Epifantsev.

Industry experts say that thanks to the sanctions, Russian manufacturers have received a large number of production orders. Now, according to them, in the production of campers there is a shortage of axles for trailers and drawbars (towing for attaching a caravan to a towbar), as well as window panes. Localization of such equipment for some camper manufacturers has reached 95%.

Epifantsev explains that now domestic options in the tourist trailer market are represented by the brands Pistashka, Laggar and Smartkemper and Kemperus.

Infrastructure is not enough

The interlocutors of socialbites.ca call the Crimea, Krasnodar Territory, the Republics of Dagestan, Karelia and Altai as the most popular places for traveling in a caravan in Russia. Russians also actively travel to Belarus. However, conditions for such a holiday in the Russian Federation are currently not the best.

“The infrastructure is getting better and better,

but now I’ll give it three out of five,” says Maria Sokolova of Kemperus.

Campsites with electricity and sewerage often appear in existing entertainment centers and hotel complexes, Epifantsev says. At the same time, he believes there is no need to develop a parking system for caravans.

“Everyone complains about the lack of infrastructure, but in reality these are trivial things.

For example, we didn’t visit the campsites for two weeks after the trailer festival and didn’t even call them – there was no need for that,” the source says.

You can use the car washes on the road to fill the caravan with technical water for washing dishes and washing. When it comes to drinking, RV owners often stock up on five-liter water bottles in advance. Interlocutors are sure that there should be no problems with electricity, since even small trailers built in Russia and rented at 1.5 thousand rubles a day can be equipped with solar panels. Their charge should be enough to make up for all the energy spent on gadgets and light bulbs.

“Yesterday we were in Volgograd on Mamaev Kurgan. Right there, in the “blue cabin” on the street, our toilet cassette was carefully emptied,” recalls a representative of Yachts on Wheels. – As for the disposal of water after washing dishes and taking a shower – everything is normal – I just empty it by the roadside, ”the car traveler shared.

Talking about the search for parking, Epifantsev advises to drive a few tens of meters from the highway in search of a picturesque spot or stop for the night at a gas station or roadside cafe.

“While driving along the Caspian highway in the Voronezh region, at midnight we decided to stop for a rest in an ordinary roadside cafe. “Having it parked next to trucks is a sure sign that this is a good place to park,” he explains.

is there any reason

Of course, a tour package consisting of hotel, meals and round-trip flights will cost less on average than traveling in a rental caravan, even mid-range. Hiring a good camper comes to 35 thousand rubles a day. By counter For example, the Association of Health Tourism, a tour to Gelendzhik in a standard room at the beginning of June (this is the most common category of accommodation) is already on sale for an average of 70 thousand rubles for a week for two people. There is also an additional option to save money at a discount from the state, which does not apply to camping holidays.

“If you book early and use the refund program, the room will cost about 50 thousand rubles,” Dmitry Sharov of the Health Tourism Association told socialbites.ca.

Alexander Epifantsev admits that road trips can be a cheaper alternative to a vacation trip if you just rent a cheap campervan.

But with camping, everything is different – a more active vacation.

Yes, you have to look for where to add the water and where to empty the toilet, but he argues that there is usually enough fluid supply for two or three days.

One of the advantages of a caravan is that it’s much easier to relocate than a hotel vacation, Sokolova adds. Additionally, purchasing a campervan can pay off on future trips.

“Let’s say you bought a caravan for 500 thousand rubles. It can be used both in winter and in summer (all trailers are now adapted for the cold season). For comparison, taking into account the cost of a hotel and tickets, a trip with children to Veliky Ustyug to see Father Frost’s homeland will cost 200-300 thousand rubles.

The cost of renting a caravan in Russia starts from 1.5 thousand rubles per day. Representatives of the tourism business told socialbites.ca that Russian travelers are increasingly beginning to replace hotels for caravans and “trailer tents”, but the infrastructure for such a vacation in the country still leaves much to be desired.
