Many details of the transactions to transfer Renault’s Russian assets to the state property of the Russian Federation are still unclear, and it is clear that in the future – perhaps within the next few months – we will have to discover some nuances. And some points were immediately announced, but behind the information on this topic they could go unnoticed. Nevertheless, the issue of maintenance of Renault cars can only disturb the Russian owners of these cars.
In particular, on May 16, in a notice on the transfer of the Russian assets of the Renault Corporation to state ownership, the Ministry of Industry and Trade clarified that AVTOVAZ will now carry out service maintenance on cars of the French brand in the Russian Federation, writes Izvestia. However, it is still unclear how this will be implemented in practice.
The Renault dealer network in Russia is one of the largest. So in 2015, there were 170 centers, only Kia (175) and AVTOVAZ (~350) had more. Pictured is the Petrovsky Center in Moscow, 2022
Several options can be suggested. Either Renault dealers will be rebranded as Lada centers or French car owners will simply be offered service in the existing Lada service network. There is also a third option, which seems to be a little closer to reality: Renault dealers are simply transferred to the balance sheet of AVTOVAZ along with the staff of employees. Recall that the shares of the domestic auto giant are now owned by FSUE NAMI and Rostec.
Earlier, Za Rulem reported that AVTOVAZ would continue to manufacture all Lada-branded cars, including those on the Renault B0 platform, under existing licenses. We are talking about the family of station wagons and vans Lada Largus and the line of raised hatchbacks Lada XRAY.
In addition, two more models acquired from Renault will appear on the Togliatti conveyor belt – Duster crossoveras well as a new generation Logan sedan made on the new CMF-B architecture, and they will be sold in Russia under the Lada brand.
- And what will Renault’s plant in Russia produce, by changing the board at the Moskvich plant? As Denis Manturov explained, Renault’s previous model range will certainly not be produced there.
