With the unclear prospects of western automakers in Russia, companies from China are emerging. The Chinese will occupy the budget segment without any problems. More difficult – with a niche of expensive and prestigious cars. These are produced in China, but in Russia they are few.
An example is the Exeed brand. After testing the flagship VX and mid-sized TLX, we reasoned that these are solid cars by the standards of other ‘Chinese’, but they lag behind rivals from Europe and Japan.
And now the most affordable and most compact crossover in the Exeed line has appeared – LX.
Price, design and features
The owner of the BMW X1 came into the parking lot and began to ask about the car. Looked in the salon, asked for the price. When he heard about the three million, he suggested that the LX could very well be his next car, as the new X1 is now twice as expensive.
Of course I understand him. The imposing interior of the LX impresses. Design – a mix of Ewok and Mercedes GLA. The center console appears to have been removed from the Range. And united by one glass, the cleanliness and screen of the media system are a solution from Mercedes.
In terms of equipment, the LX even surpasses thoroughbred foreign cars in some respects. In addition to the panoramic roof, contour lighting, wireless charging and seat memory, there is even voice control.
Of the three design options for neat, I liked the one with classic-looking shells more.

The saloon looks good and is at the forefront of the segment in terms of equipment.
The height of the fifth door can be set via the trip computer menu.
The built-in VCR is still a rarity, although it is an expected thing for Russia.
A duct from the air conditioner is brought into the glove compartment – it will come in handy in the summer.
The CVT selector is slightly larger than a paper clip. And he is comfortable!
There’s even a built-in DVR that additionally records information about pressing the gas or brake, turning on the turn signals and indicating speed. The main thing is not to forget to insert a memory card.
What did you not like?
- Seats with a high seating position and a short cushion – in every European car they are better tailored.
- There is no platform for the phone – for some reason it is suggested to store it in a niche under the center console.
- The media system with Arkamys acoustics cannot play with an undertone – at the very first “speed” it screams at the whole Ivanovo. Although the sound is quite detailed, juicy.
Overall, I’m not sure that random stranger would just give up his BMW.
The second row is spacious, but the seat is not adjustable, there is no individual lighting, the windows do not go all the way down.
The rear passengers have heated seats and two USB ports.
The aluminum one and a half liter turbo “four” SQRE4T15C pleasantly surprises with distributed injection – almost all competitors use direct injection. But there are systems to adjust valve timing and intake tract length.
The exhaust manifold is molded into the cylinder head, while a water-cooled intercooler and electronic thermostat are implanted in the intake manifold.
Will it pull off road?
The basis of LX is the modular T1X platform, which is known from other models of the parent company Chery. MacPherson front, multilink rear. The architecture allows the use of a 4×4 transmission, but this Exeed is front wheel drive only
It’s a shame—when I turned in the primer washed off by the spring thaw, the drive wheels occasionally slipped and sprinkled the sidewalls with dirty slurry. With four-wheel drive, the LX would have driven much more confidently.
How does it drive?
The 1.5 liter turbo engine is slightly inferior in power and torque (147 hp and 210 Nm respectively) to competitors with a comparable volume, but you don’t notice that in real life. The car accelerates aggressively and the start to one hundred confirmed the indicated 10.5 s.
In addition, this result is achieved in Eco mode, while in Sport it takes 10.9 seconds to accelerate! Why not vice versa? Some of the time is lost on the slip associated with the starting jerk. Further set of speed is the same.
The sides of the trunk are covered with carpet. There are no devices for fixing loads.
Average consumption was 9.5 l/100 km. AI-92 can be poured into the tank. But as soon as we hear the word “turbo”, according to tradition, we advise you to refuel the 95th.
Under the floor is a handy organizer. Below is a proof.
In combination with the motor, a V-belt variator of its own production works (the steel belt is supplied by Bosch). It has nine quasi-speeds and consumes up to 250 Nm of torque. The device has been in production for more than a year and is known for being very reliable.
The LX holds a straight line well and is stable when cornering, but the driving pleasure that German crossovers bestow is not. Pirelli Scorpion winter claws buzz that I doubted my eyesight. Stopped, checked: no, no spikes. Arches and bottom need extra insulation! But otherwise there are no questions: the wind does not whistle, the engine is quiet.
Driving is moderate. Shakes even on small joints and spots. And the front “flies” faster than the rear. And the energy intensity rebound and compression is not enough. A car with a claim to premium should not be like this.

In the base – plastic crankcase. Later on, dealers will start offering metal – at an additional cost, of course.
The doors are high, cover the thresholds. They have a triple contour of the seals and the backlight has been added in the Prestige version.
You can already fall in love with the LX with your eyes – even after BMW. But driving characteristics are still “Chinese”. Four-wheel drive is sorely lacking, at least as an option.
But even if all this shows up, it will be some time before the brand becomes prestigious in the eyes of buyers. How much will it be? One year, three, five?
