Do not confuse Chery Tiggo 8 with the same model with the Pro prefix. The dimensions and appearance are similar, but the positioning is different.
The Pro crossover has more status: it’s more equipped, costs more and is about to appear with four-wheel drive, which is not allowed for the usual G8. Although the rear multi-link suspension allows to be implemented.
Tiggo 8 has only been out for a few years. But by Chinese standards, it’s time to upgrade.
The modernization was more than modest. In the only Prestige configuration on our market appeared a panoramic roof with sunroof, backlighting with the option of color change, power seat adjustment for the right passenger and all-round cameras with improved image quality.

When updating, the crossover lost its 2.0 turbo engine with CVT. Its 170 powers for a big car, so it wasn’t much. Now, on the Tiggo 8, a 1.5 supercharged engine with a capacity of 147 forces is installed. Not enough?
There is no apparent lack of “horses”, but there is no ease in riding either. Overtaking on the “Chinese” should be calculated carefully, even if you drive together. And if you remember that the car seats seven (or five with large luggage), it gets sad. But for a greater return from Chery, you should turn to the Tiggo 8 Pro model. You can do nothing – marketing!
Shouldn’t you be afraid of a robot?
The G8 is powered by a six-speed Getrag robot with dry clutches. Often the box vibrates, sometimes it switches randomly. Worth the fear?
If you look back at the image this transmission earned under the name PowerShift on the Ford Focus III, then yes. But you read the forums of the owners of Chery Tiggo 4 with the same robot – and trust appears. There are no complaints about breakage. And the inadequacy of work is remedied by blinking or changing the driving style.
Drive Tiggo 8 hard. Sharp and large road defects are especially noticeable under the wheels.
The price is 2.9 million rubles for a large, but still Chinese crossover – this is the current reality. You can be sure of the power source: neither the engine nor the gearbox will fall apart. And the equipment and design are very solid. No worse than competitors.
