Renault Duster crossover will become Lada – the model will be located at the AVTOVAZ Togliatti plant and will be produced under the Russian brand Lada. Denis Pak, director of the Department of Automotive Industry and Railway Engineering of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, announced these agreements between AVTOVAZ and Renault Group in the broadcast of TV channel Rossiya 24.
Recall that until recently Renault Duster was produced at the Renault Russia plant, the assembly of restyled cars began in January 2021. But already in April 2022, Renault production (except Duster, Arkana and Kaptur were also produced) in the factory stopped, and on May 16 it became known about the upcoming production of cars under the Moskvich brand.
As for AVTOVAZ, the manufacturer faces a serious shortage of components and is preparing to put into production simplified modifications of cars on its own platforms. With these modifications, some of the electronic systems are missing and the engine will probably be of a lower environmental class.
Now both AvtoVAZ production sites, the factories in Togliatti and Izhevsk, are shut down because they were not started up after the May holiday. In addition to the Lada models, the Togliatti plant also produced Renault Logan and Sandero cars, which share a common platform with the Duster crossover.
- Renault says goodbye to its assets in Russia – on May 16, the Renault Group Board of Directors approved the signing of agreements on the sale of 100% of the shares of Renault Russia and 67.69% of the shares of AVTOVAZ, the new owner was FSUE NAMI.
