Where does the sand in the oil come from?
The engine of our Dasrea allows 92nd gasoline – we fill the car with it.
The surprise was that the engine compartment is very dirty. On the right side, there is a gap between the two hood seals and the debris flow is directed directly to the oil filler neck.
To assess the condition of the engine, we take samples of engine oil every five thousand km and send them to the laboratory for analysis. On early runs, an increased metal content was found in the oil, which is natural – the engine was “grinding”. Later, the metal content in the oil decreased.
But a large amount of silicon found 20 thousand kilometers in oil is not normal. It seems that dust and dirt get into the lubricant – such an abrasive will inevitably shorten the life of the engine. So far we have only one suspicion: the “sandblasting” of the oil filler neck.
What about fuel?
Closer to 30 thousand, fuel particles were found in the oil, which is also not good. Gasoline dilutes the lubricant and reduces its viscosity. It is noteworthy that, according to the available information, the manufacturer does not recommend the use of motor oil with a “hot” viscosity of less than 40 units in Russia. Does he know anything? Our car is filled with 5W-40.
Let’s try to cure the dirt in the engine compartment by removing the gap in the seal. As for the fuel in the oil, it’s very possible it’s a result of working on the 92nd gasoline. After all, Arcana with a similar engine, which we fed the AI-95, had no such problem. Since the fuel system is working, there is an option that the working mixture will not burn out completely and will eventually get through the rings into the oil.
The engine compartment does not give the impression of 30, but of 300 thousand kilometers. Dirt enters through the gap between the two seals. On the left side, the seals overlap and there is no problem.
The entire stream of road dust flies straight to the filler neck. It looks like dirt is getting into the oil.
Lost tow eye plugs have become consumables for new Dusters.
Is the body okay?
There are not only questions about the engine. We already wrote that there were cracks in the paint on the roof.
New cracks did not appear in winter, just as the old ones did not increase. Which confirms the assumption that they are not related to the stiffness of the body. A similar story was found on many budget Renaults – the earlier Duster, Logan and Sandero. The great thing is that this should not affect the durability of the bodywork. But the fact that such a defect occurs is unpleasant.
In the cold winter not only saves remote starting, but also the possibility of programming it for a certain time.
With the onset of cold weather, the gears began to engage with a noticeable effort: either ice formed on the mechanism or dirt got into the shift cables.
These are not the only paint problems. In the openings of the rear doors, abrasions to the metal appeared in those places where the soft door seal is soldered to an element closer to plastic in rigidity. If the seal was firm and soft, this would not have happened. Consequences of saving?
The paint in the back doorways had rubbed off on the floor. The contact markings can be found on the door seal.
What did you save on?
For example on the attachment of the towing eye plugs. To remove them, you need to pick up the edge with a wrench or screwdriver. But if the pressure comes from the back, when crossing a ford or deep snow, the plugs immediately fly out and are lost. We lost one in the front bumper in a deep puddle. And the rear was lost in a snowdrift.
New parts cost us 650 rubles each, and the order waited about a week.
According to the manager of the parts department, people regularly lose plugs. It is well worth adding at least an “anchor” to it, from which the part will hang in the open position. This is how many manufacturers are doing it. And even better – fix it in a humane way.
So far, to protect yourself before driving through a deep puddle or virgin snow, it is better to pull out the plugs in advance. There will be more!
An uncleaned area of three centimeters remains on the left. Together with the body pillar, an indecently large dead zone is formed.
In Duster it was warm in winter. In addition to heating all seats, windscreen and steering wheel, there is remote starting from the key and programmable via the menu. Obviously, if the car is left in the parking lot with gear engaged, the engine will not start.
The Duster recently had its second scheduled service. The list of works is the same as during the first APK. Some kind of crime was not revealed, but in general with a small mileage there are too many questions for Duster.
