On February 1, Aleksey Spirin took over as CEO of UAZ, replacing Adil Shirinov, who remained co-owner and chairman of Sollers’ board of directors. In his first major interview, Spirin specified, among other things, the timing of the return of ABS and ESP systems, as well as airbags, to UAZ SUVs.
“In the medium term, we are working on the return of the ABS hydraulic control unit with the exchange rate stability system and airbags. We plan to return them in late 2023 – early 2024. We are currently working on and preparing vehicle tests with our partners.” – said Alexei Spirin.

In July 2022, it became known that instead of the previously used ABS from Bosch, UAZs “fitted” a system from the Chinese manufacturer APG. Since the summer, the plant has been producing “simplified” cars without sanctioned parts, including without ABS. After the return of ABS in May 2024, they plan to install Chinese diesel and manual transmissions on UAZ vehicles.
