Among the most affordable all-wheel drive crossovers on the secondary market, there are several models that may not meet the expectations of owners due to a large number of problems. Despite the good name and low price, their content will be too expensive.
One of these crossovers is noticed by an expert from Za Rulem, the oldest and most authoritative automotive publication in Russia, Sergei Zinoviev. This is the well-known Skoda Yeti.
Unfortunately, this crossover with a mileage of less than 100 thousand km on the secondary market is not so easy to find. Such copies cost 1.1-1.5 million rubles, which does not fit into the modern understanding of a “cheap car”. We are interested in cars with a price of up to 1 million rubles, which means that they are more than 8 years old and have a mileage of 100,000 km.
Among Yeti it is better to choose the option with a 1.6 engine and a classic hydraulic machine – it is the most resourceful. But then you don’t have four-wheel drive. That is, after 4×4, the buyer comes to the car 1.8 TSI (152 hp) and DSG-6 (DQ250) – a turbocharged engine and a robot.
This engine caused problems for owners even during the warranty period. The combination of direct injection, lightweight pistons and thin oil scraper rings results in exceptional oil burning. At the same time, 0W-30 oil is poured into the engine, which is not cheap. Sometimes you have to top up 1 liter every 1000 km.
The timing chain of the engine does not serve for a long time, problems with the intake manifold are not uncommon, the oil separator and some sensors do not work. And eliminating all these problems is expensive for a crossover bought at a price of up to 1 million rubles.
But the all-wheel drive Yeti also has a robot box that works without problems only for the first 120-150 thousand km.
But the car also has its advantages. Owners of the Skoda Yeti are not aware of the problems associated with suspension, corrosion and the Haldex clutch in the all-wheel drive.
