Dave College, a British Ford restorer and head of Retroford, has discovered that old Ladas often sell for next to nothing in Eastern Europe.
He then bought a dilapidated VAZ-2101 with right-hand drive (!), completely restored and painted the body and then placed a four-cylinder Cosworth Duratec 2.3 under the hood, which he had left in a dead state five years earlier.
The engine also underwent a total overhaul, boosted by the application of special firmware, as well as new intake and exhaust manifolds, and was connected to the Mazda MX-5 manual transmission.
The orange rear-wheel drive car, called the Street Sleeper, has 240 horsepower under the hood. and weighs only 950 kg, which allows it to accelerate to 100 km / h in 4.5 seconds and develop … 240 km / h!
The project cost about 28 thousand euros.
