Roewe RX9 is a new seven-seater SUV for the Chinese market. It will be the next flagship of the SAIC Roewe brand and will be launched in February 2023.
Roewe is a car brand created by SAIC Motor in 2006. The name is a reference to Rover, which SAIC was unable to acquire in 2005. Initially, the brand focused on the luxury car segment, adopting technology from MG Rover.
Roewe is little known outside of China, mainly because it is sold under the MG brand in most markets outside the country. Now the flagship of the brand is the aging Roewe RX8. RX9 should replace it.
Roewe RX9 is a mid-size SUV with seven or six seats (depending on configuration). The dimensions are (mm): 4983/1967/1786, wheelbase – 2915 mm.
The design of the car is quite modern: a large grille with split headlights, extendable door handles and taillights combined with a light strip. It looks quite modern, but the raised back of the RX9 makes the model a bit heavier.
Inside, a block of three screens on the center console. These are: dashboard, screens for the driver and passenger. The car has a three-spoke D-shaped steering wheel, a small set of buttons on the center console and an unusually shaped gear lever. In general, the interior of the Roewe RX9 looks pretty neat.
The RX9 will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 234 hp, mated to a 9AT. There is full driving.
As for the price tag, it starts at 180,000 yuan (about 1.6 million rubles). In Russia, Lada dealers offer the Vesta Sport sedan for that kind of money (from 1.59 million rubles). True, the official appearance of the SAIC brand, and even more so Roewe, has not yet been heard on the Russian market.
Roewe previously planned to start selling the RX9 in China in Q3 2022, but the deadline has now been pushed back to February 2023.
