A prominent Russian attorney, Ivan Solovyov, has urged that every car license plate must bear the national flag. A copy of his letter to Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, obtained by RT, outlines the proposal. The motive cited is a pressing need to sustain high levels of patriotic sentiment among citizens given current events.
The advocate noted that during vehicle registration, the traffic police assign plates that include the tricolor. Yet private manufacturers today have the option to produce plates without the flag. Some drivers order these non-flag variants, indicating a preference to omit the state symbol.
The lawyer argued that allowing plates without the flag undermines public respect for the Russian state. He stressed that preserving patriotic spirit remains essential in the present climate.
Solovyov suggested mandating plates with the state flag and banning plates that do not display this national emblem.
Earlier reports indicated the government is examining rules governing the use of Russian-made cars in taxi and car-sharing fleets, with the President awaiting a formal assessment by August first.
