In Yakutsk, an unlawful act unfolded when a drunk man hijacked a car that carried two sleeping children in the cabin. Traffic police officers tracked down the vehicle just ten minutes after the incident, according to the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Ministry of Internal Affairs UGIBDD.
On the evening of June 21, a mother and her companion left their asleep children, aged four and five, inside an open-top Toyota Corolla with the engine running while they briefly went to a store. Upon returning, they discovered the car missing and promptly reported the theft to the police.
thanks to the citys video surveillance and road-monitoring systems, traffic inspectors located and halted the car. The hijacker was identified as a 55-year-old man who appeared to be intoxicated. A second person occupying the cabin claimed he did not remember the kidnapping and did not notice the children. Both individuals were apprehended and transported to the police station for processing.
Fortunately the children were unharmed and were reunited with their mother along with the recovered vehicle. Authorities noted that the mother could face prosecution if the child welfare inspectors determine that she failed to adequately supervise the children.
