The Moskvich Automobile Plant is advancing its in-house electric vehicle program, aiming to deliver a Russian-designed EV in the near future. This update comes from company chief Oleg Maslyakov, with official remarks reported by RIA Novosti. The target year for the new electric model is 2025.

Maslyakov explained that the 2025 rollout will feature a fully domestically engineered electric car, with the essential propulsion and energy-storage systems, including the electric motor and traction battery, among the core components. He emphasized that the vehicle will be designed with ownership in mind, relying on locally developed architecture and parts where feasible.

Today, the Moskvich plant in Pechatniki employs roughly 1,600 workers. The facility currently manufactures the Moskvich 3 crossover, the Moskvich 3e electric crossover, and the Moskvich 6 sedan. Production of the Moskvich 6 is slated to begin in September, though consumer sales for that model had not commenced at the time of the latest update.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced plans for Moskvich to begin producing two additional crossover models, the Moskvich 5 and Moskvich 8, in 2024. The Moskvich 5 crossover was unveiled in Tatarstan earlier that summer, and it was later revealed to be closely related to the Chinese JAC Sehol X6 platform. This relationship signals a broader strategy to leverage existing platforms while expanding the Moskvich lineup for urban and family use.

In related industry movements, reports also indicated that Changan would introduce a separate Uni brand to the Russian market, hinting at ongoing collaborations and market diversification strategies in the region.

Overall, Moskvich is positioning itself as a domestic electric mobility player with a growing product family and a roadmap that aims to increase local production capabilities, expand model options, and align with regional demand for electric vehicles in Russia. The company continues to communicate its commitment to accelerating production readiness and advancing its domestic engineering ecosystem as part of its long-term growth vision.
