Maruti Suzuki is gearing up the Gurgaon facility for the production of the five-door Jimny, slated to begin in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. A three-door Jimny has been manufactured at this site since January 2021, serving export markets with left and right hand drive configurations across Africa and the Middle East. The plant’s assembly line is being reconfigured to support the new five-door version for the Indian market.

As a chassis SUV, the Jimny maintains its rugged underpinnings and will still be produced on a dedicated assembly line at this plant, which also manufactures the XL6, Ertiga, and Eeco models. The five-door Jimny will be powered by Suzuki’s 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine delivering around 102 horsepower. This updated engine employs DualJet technology to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, and it can be paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of size, the five-door Jimny is designed to stay under four meters in length with a ground clearance around 210 millimeters, mirroring the specs of the existing three-door version. The five-door Jimny is expected to be unveiled at Auto Expo 2023 in January, where it will be positioned as a versatile family lifestyle vehicle that blends compact practicality with off-road capability.
